Radiculopathy is a term used by the experts to describe some problems from the area of the spine, the location of the nerve roots. The main symptom of lumbar radiculopathy is pain that may radiate to other areas. In this mode, no nerves, whose roots are affected are not functioning normally, which means it is a form of neuropathy. A couple of related conditions including: pirifornis, sciatica, syndrome and the tail of quina syndrome.

Causes include inflammation of the nerve roots or pinched. They can be caused by a variety of underlying diseases. For example, bone spurs may grow along the spine and affect the nerves. In spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal can lead to compression (and pressure) on the nerves. A herniated disc can also cause this condition because the average of the spine grows on a nerve

As mentioned earlier, the primary symptoms of radiculopathy is usually related back pain. This pain can also be other places, such as the legs. In cervical radiculopathy (neck) arms may be affected. Numbness, Pins, tingling and needles sometimes occur as symptoms. The name of these common symptoms of radiculopathy is sciatica. In addition, allergic reactions could be felt.

Methods of diagnosis of radiculopathy may vary, but a full physical examination and/or X-ray tests may used. The common presence of back pain does not necessarily imply that the radiculopathy (nerve root irritation or compression). Treatment methods may be different from case to case: surgery, drugs and physical therapy are some possibilities. The “root” of the cause and the patient’s condition and other factors can lead to different treatment options.
