Many say that running is one best spinal care. It helps relieve stress as it empties your mind and at the same time it compresses your spine. Our spine serves as the main messenger of our brains. It lies at the middle of our vertebra. It functions well with a simple twist and torque and of course with proper spine care.
If our spines are exposed to prolonged stress, we may experience some spine problems which may range from simple uneasiness to a very unbearable pain. So here are some of the preventive measures you should know to stay away from back injuries.
1. Exercise Regularly. This is suggested to be the first on the list of spine care as it helps you keep fit to lessen the weight and pressure over your spine. Exercising also strengthens our back muscles so that it can withstand the fatigue which could be brought by work. Some of the suggested exercises are running and brisk walking. Abs exercises are also included to strengthen your stomach muscles; stomach muscles serve as assistance to your back muscles.
2. You should know how to bend properly when necessary. If you will pick up something with your back kept straight and your waist is the only thing you use to bend down, then you are ding it wrong. Do you know how much you are putting you spine at risk by doing such? The weight that your spine carries by bending in such a way is the weight of your upper body plus the weight of the thing you are picking multiplied by the distance of you upper body to your hips. So instead of bending forward in this manner, try bending your knees to vertically lower your body when necessary.
3. Keep a good posture. Practicing a good posture means maintaining the natural curve of you spinal cord without exaggeration. Sit or stand straight keeping your head lying on top of your vertebra instead of looking down. Make sure that you hips and shoulders are in the same line or level. Pull you stomach in and your chest out. Make sure not to lean forward when in front of a computer or when eating.
4. Quit or do not even start smoking. Smoking is the number one factor that affects the degeneration of your spine. Aside from its many hazardous effects, smoking weakens your bone, especially your spine, causing it to be prone to cracks that cause severe back pains. If this happens, surgery is the only cure for it.
5. Check your bone density regularly. Consume foods and drinks that are high in calcium content. You may also try taking a multivitamin everyday. In the event that your physician advices you, take a supplement that will enhance your calcium level.
6. Stretch your bones nice and smooth. Make it a habit when you wake up in the morning, before exercising or just about anytime you feel like doing it especially when you have been sitting or standing for long hours already.
7. Push things when necessary instead of having them pulled.
Give you back the warmest spine care and your spine will take care of you as well.
