Slight to severe pain in the feet can result from a myriad of reasons.  When parts of the foot such as the blood vessels, the muscles, the joints, tendons and ligaments are affected this is usually what will lead to the development of pain in the foot.

One could define foot pain as a dull, excruciating, piercing or sharp pain.  The pain one feels in their foot can also manifest as a prickling or burning sensation.  Pain in the foot sometimes comes about when you are engaged in particular activities such as sports and you are not wearing the proper shoes.  Some foot pains are experienced when you move your ankle or foot, but that same movement may also serve to reduce or remove the pain.  Dependent on the severity of the pain or injury to the feet though, the individual may not be able to move the area that has been injured.

Pain in the foot can also localize to a single area of one of your feet.  When this happens, it can affect the toes, foot bottom or the top of the foot.  The ailment wherein the pain is sensed in the bottom of the heel is referred to as Plantar Fasciitis.

Chronic foot pain can be as a result of medical illnesses that have an effect on your whole body.  These diseases include, among others, diabetes and arthritis.  The severe foot pain on the other hand, more than likely has been newly originated from some trauma that the individual has sustained to the foot.

In most instances, difficulties derived from foot pain are not fatal.  Nevertheless, there are such cases in which there is severe bleeding or tissue injury, which can lead to the formation of blood clots.  Unfortunately, these blood clots can travel to your heart and can ultimately prove to be deadly.  Persons can also run the risk of developing infections in the bones, skin or soft tissues of their feet which can spread all over the body.  This can cause failure in certain organs in the body.   As such, if you are experiencing foot pain that is frequent, and refuse to stop despite your best efforts to treat it on your own, then swift curative attention should be sought, or results that could have been avoided may occur.

The management and prompt attention that is sought and given to persons experiencing pain in their foot will determine whether they have to endure an amputation due to gangrene, if they are cured, if the pain can be minimized, or if god forbid, they go through an avoidable life and death situation.
