Many people experience pain in the elbow but few of them know the real cause of this pain. In order for the pain to be treated appropriately, it is very important to know what is causing the pain. The most common causes of pain in the elbow are as follows:
Medical conditions which affect the elbow such as disorders like tendonitis, bursitis and arthritis.
Some injuries which cause muscle strain or stress fracture. These usually lead to pain in the elbow.
Overuse of the elbow. Chores such as gardening as well as some sports can result in the elbow being overused. The more you use your joints, the more likely they are to wear out and can get damaged or hurt.
-
When these damage the joint or the area around it, your body is alerted to this by way of pain.
This term usually refers to the ache a child experience in his or her elbow as a result of a guardian pulling on the arm so he or she follows them. This pulling can strain the elbow and can cause the muscle and joints surrounding the arm to stretch and even become dislocated.
If you are not sure of the cause of pain in the elbow it is advised that you visit an expert just so you will be sure that your pain is being correctly diagnosed.
Elbow pain can result in a person’s movements being restricted and he or she can experience a decrease in productivity. The following are treatments considered useful in relieving the pain:
Give the elbow a rest by taking a break for a while. Take a couple day’s vacation from any activity that causes the pain.
This can relieve the pain as well as lessen inflammation.
-
Wrapping it with a bandage
This may serve to remind you not to move your elbow. An air splint will give a better result.
-
Raising your elbow above your heart
The recovery process is faster with this treatment.
The arms need regular exercise. Light exercises will work as well. If the area is allowed to be out of use for too long it can become stiff. Regular exercise aids in increasing flexibility and strengthen the area.
One of the most common causes for elbow pain is arthritis of the elbow. If your pain does not recede after you have tried the remedies mentioned above, you should go see a doctor.
